Nelly Lewis

Nelly practiced gymnastics and classical ballet since she was 5.  She was first introduced to Pilates in 2003 during dance and mime studies in Paris, along with a successful career as a solo performer and choreographer in mime and Butoh, Nelly decided to dedicate herself to teaching Pilates and movement. Since 2007, Nelly has been teaching, She brings her extensive knowledge of movement and body awareness to her teaching practice, offering a unique take on Pilates she calls Holistic PilatesTM , which integrates techniques from Feldenkrais, Body Intelligence, yoga, Alexander Technique, and Qigong, all while staying loyal to Pilates. she teach regular classes, workshops, and retreats in the UK and around the world. 

 

Nelly first came to Pilates through her dance and mime training. Drawn to the discipline, mindfulness of the movement, and emphasis on the breath, she made Pilates her main focus in 2007. After experiencing three back injuries, some occurring before her practice and some after she had already begun teaching, she developed a specialisation in back pain recovery and rehabilitation. Nelly believes Pilates can help alleviate many aches and pains, and her teaching also includes strategies for managing persistent discomfort. Learning how to relax in our bodies is a key element of her approach.

 

Nelly has maintained her practice for over a decade, during which she has experienced two C-sections, a car accident, and an electric scooter accident. She practises mindfulness meditation and follows Thich Nhat Hanh's teachings.

She delivers regular courses in Brighton and the surrounding areas, all of which are consistently fully booked. Additionally, she offers masterclasses and retreats for Pilates practitioners. Recently, she has begun imparting her extensive knowledge to fellow Pilates instructors through her highly regarded Holistic Pilates courses, designed specifically for teachers.

 

Lastly, Nelly is a vegan, She lives in Brighton with her two boys, her partner, a cat called Moggy, and a gecko named Kiwi.
